Emma 指出,如今"普通人也可能在全球公共舞台上遭受人格暗杀"(average person can now have their character assassinated on a worldwide public stage),且往往"未经同意"(not consenting to it)。

起初她以为只是诈骗评论,但随着"文章开始涌现,附带截图证明此事属实"(articles start coming out with screenshots showing that this is true),她陷入极度困惑与恐慌。尽管她"百分之百确定自己从未同意或提出过这个想法"(never even considered or thought about selling a fucking DM for $10,000),但舆论已迅速发酵,甚至同行也开始以此开玩笑,赋予谣言某种"合法性"(adds legitimacy to it)。

Emma 感慨道:"那一刻,我意识到自己的身份在某种程度上已脱离掌控"(my identity is out of my control in some ways),这种"无力感"(powerless)是她经历过"最痛苦的感受之一"(one of the worst feelings in the world)。

  • 无聊驱动:人们为填补空虚而制造或传播谣言;
  • 嫉妒作祟:嫉妒会使人"沦为最糟糕的版本"(turn into the worst version of yourself),进而通过贬低他人获得心理平衡;

(I read it and eat it up),尽管她不主动传播,但内心仍会被娱乐化叙事吸引。

  1. 认知失调:承认误信谣言意味着否定自己的判断力,打击 ego;
  2. 现实重构:当整个社会按谣言行事时,虚假便成了"功能性真实"(it may as well be true);

  • 克制传播:即使相信谣言,也应"将其保留在自己或密友圈内"(keep it to yourself),避免公开扩散;
  • 保持免责声明:讨论时明确"我不确定这是否属实"(I don't know if this is true);
  • 培养同理心:记住"地球上每个人都有感受"(everyone on this planet has feelings),拒绝将他人物化;
  • 勇于修正观点:"改变想法不是愚蠢,而是谦逊与勇气的体现"(changing your mind is admirable and takes humility and courage)。

毕竟,"没有人应该承受这种痛苦"(nobody was really that hurt in the process... but mentally, it hurt me),而预防永远胜于补救。

📖 Transcript

I've had character assassination on my list of topics for weeks now.
But I hadn't gotten around to it because it didn't feel particularly relevant to my life.
And I tend to be the most drawn to topics that are relevant to my life at a given moment. whether they're relevant because of recent experiences or they're relevant because of a topic is heavy on my mind for whatever reason.
Character assassination is, was kind of on my mind, but not heavily on my mind.
So just sort of sat there on my list of topics collecting dust.
But for some reason... The universe wants me to make this episode because it made the topic incredibly relevant in my personal life recently.
