Hello listeners and welcome back to the English with Neil podcast.
How is everyone doing today?
In this episode we're going to talk about a hot topic that has taken over the internet.
What I'm talking about is the new company X. X, just the letter X. What is the letter X?
X is now the new company, the new brand of the former social network Twitter.
Twitter is now gone.
It is in the past.
It no longer exists.
Twitter is now X. And that's what we're going to talk about today.
Let me give you guys a little bit of history about Twitter and X and the owner, Elon Musk, so you can have some better context as to what I'm talking about.
If you don't know who Elon Musk is, he is the current owner of the company X and way before, way before this, let's go back.
We have to go back 10, 20 years before, probably even 30 years.
Um he, elon musk was the co-founder of paypal.
Paypal is an online payment system that allows you to send money to people anywhere in the world, and you can also use paypal to purchase things over the internet.
So elon musk was a founder of this company and that was one of the things that he was known for.
But, among other things, he has really become popular for his electric company, Tesla.
Tesla is He is the top tier electric car company all over the world.
So you may have known him from Tesla.
You may also know him from founding the aerospace company SpaceX.
And that company is doing some amazing things.
One of Elon Musk's mission Is to make the human species A multi-planetary.
He plans to make the human race A multi-planetary species, Meaning that We not only live here on Earth, but he's actually trying to take humans and move them to other planets such as Mars.
So that's one of his missions.
So, yeah, he's he's quite a character.
But in recent news.
Not too long ago he purchased the social network Twitter.
We all know Twitter, that little bird that's on everyone's phone.
I think everyone knows what Twitter is.
Became like a social it.
It became so much ingrained in our society that we we even use the word as a verb.
To tweet something means to post something in a short form, like a mini blog.
And so we even, you know, incorporated this word tweet into our vocabulary.
Now that is no longer the case, because when Elon Musk purchased Twitter, he had other plans of uh, of taking Twitter to a new level, and in order for him to take Twitter to a new level, he had to make a bunch of changes within the company.
But not only that, he had to rebrand the company, and now it is called X, and this news Has just blown up the internet.
Everyone's talking about it, this XX.
And it sounds kind of one of the big deals that was going over the internet was X, sounds like.
It sounds like something dangerous.
Right.
It sounds like something inappropriate.
Right.
Sounds like something, something adult rated X, And you know when I talk about where, I was talking about tweeting.
Elon Musk said that the word tweet will no longer be used on the X platform.
He said they would be referred to as posts, a post.
That doesn't sound as great as a tweet, right?
But that's what he's calling it.
It might change down the line, but.
That's what it currently is.
And so I just want to just share my thoughts on X, this app, and what I think is going to happen with that into the future.
Now, mind you, I know nothing at all about Elon Musk.
I mean, I don't think any of us do.
I'm just a regular guy.
But, you know, I read the news.
I keep up with the news and I'm really attuned to business.
So I just want to share my thoughts as a business owner as well.
When anytime someone.
Such as that caliber does something so extreme.
Everyone has something to say.
Everyone wants to share their opinion.
Oh, I think I think it's no good or this is bad or whatever.
Everybody has an opinion and that's fine.
What I think, though.
I think that Elon Musk is just carving out a new lane.
We have the Facebook, we have the Instagram, we have all of these big social networks, but he has just taken technology to a whole new level, even with his company Starlink.
You know, the chip that can be implanted in your brain to help people with, you know, brain disabilities.
I mean, this is like next level stuff and I think, I think Elon Musk is not motivated by money.
I think he's motivated by his mission.
Whatever his mission is, I think that was his purpose, his reason for purchasing Twitter so that he can scale his business all over the world.
And I think that X is going to be much more than just an app where people do short form content.
He said that he wants to make X a super app.
So what that means is You're not only going to have the ability to post things, but you're going to be able to listen to music.
You're going to be able to watch videos.
You're going to be able to make purchases, send money, pretty much an all-in-one.
And there are apps. that currently have those capabilities.
Here in Japan, where I live, We use an app called Line, L-I-N-E.
And that is just like a messaging app.
But you can also send money through Line.
You can purchase things through Line.
You can invest through Line.
You can do so many things.
And I think that is where elon musk is headed.
Like i said, he is driven by his mission.
It's not a money move, it's more of like he's just operating from his mission and now, with all of the users all over the world, he will be able to scale his mission uh, even faster using this technology.
So i'm really interested to see where this is going to go.
I personally am not a user of twitter i don't i'm not really a social media person, but I think the usage of it is amazing.
The ability to communicate with the world, the ability to have a voice and the ability to change lives.
And I think that is what he's doing.
So those are just my thoughts.
So something to think about.
What do you think about the new app X?
What do you think is going to achieve?
What do you think is going to be in the next five or ten years down the road?
All right, everyone.
That is it for today's episode.
