We've talked about the rise of masculinism in the past on Do You Really Know?
And today's subject is linked to the kind of traditional narratives that misogynistic men like to support.
You know the type of views I mean.
Men are supposed to be strong, authoritative and physically imposing.
Women, on the other hand, are expected to be gentle, compliant, and ideally not too independent.
In recent times, trad guys have made it clear that they feel Pilates girls are their ideal type of woman.
Posting on Instagram in March 2026, American influencer Christian Bonnier said the following...
If your girl goes to Pilates, wife her up immediately.
Pay for her whole membership every month.
It's expensive, but it's worth it.
Surprise her with a new pair of grip socks every now and then.
Tell her to embrace the Pilates burn.
Make sure she goes and that it's known that you support her Pilates addiction.
Why?
Because Pilates is the biggest green flag ever for a girl.
Since when do people choose their partners based on their exercise regime?
Well, you've got the points raised by Bonnier in his Instagram posts.
And then there's the more subtle, insidious reasons linked to the supposed male and female roles within a household.
Pilates is a form of exercise that anyone can partake in, but it's traditionally been seen as a female activity, and one that has a strong focus on appearance, at that helping to maintain a particular physique.
A feature about the Manosphere's love of Pilates girls.
In, 19thnewsorg described this as a slim toned, svelte woman who is younger, has no curves, a flat stomach and ab definition.
There's something symbolic about that look too, isn't there?
Less muscle mass, less physically imposing, less of a threat to a man's dominance within a household, at least in the eyes of trad guys.
How do Pilates girls feel about being objectified in such a creepy way?
Well, some trad wives are proponents of soft living and actively embrace having their husband provide for them.
But there's no evidence to suggest that there's a real overlap with girls who do Pilates there.
In reality, Pilates classes are far more diverse than the stereotype suggests.
Women of all backgrounds take part, and plenty of men do so too.
Most importantly, people choose to do Pilates because they enjoy it, not to fit into anyone else's ideal fantasy, and especially not the fantasy of misogynistic young men.
Thankfully, some Pilates instructors are fighting back, making it clear that the Manosphere's obsession with Pilates girls is based on stereotypes and assumptions rather than reality.
Heather Anderson co-founded New York Pilates in 2013.
Talking to USA Today about Pilates stereotypes, she said The irony is that Pilates is intrinsically very inclusive because it's modifiable.
People have these ideas about what Pilates makes you.
But actual Pilates is warm and welcoming and will modify for you no matter where you are.
And that is the antithesis of the idea of it being for being skinny.
There you have it.
Now you know why the manosphere is going crazy for Pilates girls.
